WHY
In a culture segregating public from private spheres, the public restroom serves as a private sanctuary — a reserve for temporary release. Following a long tradition of anonymous bathroom literature, URINALSTREAM seeks to enter this private sphere, feeding the public with information otherwise inconvenient or inaccessible. Exploring the dissonance in the collision of public and private — civil versus domestic and all that is within (solitude/family/taboo/safety/comfort) — we aim to address the political significance of this public space one pisser at a time.
Helena Stone was arrested for using the restroom while working in Grand Central. Hear her tell her story with her attorney, TLDEF executive director Michael Silverman.
